The History of Hollywood, Florida
A mere baby by many South Florida city standards, Hollywood was
incorporated in 1925. This product of the South Florida Boom times of
the 1920's slowly developed until shortly after World War II. For a
retrospective look of the life and times of Hollywood, you are encouraged
to checkout the historic arts district built up around Young Circle.
Originally named for the city founder of Hollywood, Joseph Young
envision Hollywood as a "Dream City in Florida." Young also planned for
a wide boulevard (which is now Hollywood Blvd.) to extend from the
Atlantic Ocean westward extending to the edge of the Everglades.
Act Up in Hollywood
To experience the vision that is the very
heart of Joseph Young's original city plan you must visit the ArtsPark
at Young Circle. Offering 10 acres of "garden of Eden" like open space,
you will also enjoy broad paved promenades perfect for a casual stroll.
Active Hollywood residents use this area to go for a run as well.
There's even something for the kids with a children's play area with
interactive fountain. The arts are alive and well at the nearby
Art and
Culture Center of Hollywood. Here you can take in a spectacular dance
performance, theater, art exhibits and enjoy musical performances.
All Roads Lead to the Beach!
In South Florida it seems as
though all roads lead to the beach, and in Hollywood it is no
exception. A prime example of this is our Hollywood Boulevard. Upon
departing the historic downtown arts district, it is recommended you take a
trip across the Hollywood Boulevard Bridge to Ocean Drive. On the North
and South of Hollywood Boulevard you will come upon Northlake and
Southlake. These two lakes are connected to the Intracoastal waterway
making Hollywood a boater's haven.

For sheer entertainment value, you will be hard pressed to find any other location in South Florida to compare to Hollywood. Outstanding championship caliber Hollywood golf courses appeal to every skill level and the views are incredible. The City of Hollywood "muni" courses are both relaxing and challenging. Vegas by the Sea?
Speaking of gaming - possessing the name of a "trendy" California
city, Hollywood, Florida is more than an up and coming city in its own
right. You could even experience visions of Las Vegas here in
Hollywood. Here in Hollywood you might be surprised to find the
smallest Seminole Indian reservation in the state of Florida. Offering
every Vegas-like entertainment possible, the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel
and Casino is an enormous 24/7 gambling resort. The Seminole Hard Rock
Hotel and Casino features a tropical pool area, large auditorium, great
